In an old country song, Garth Brooks shows up at his ex’s wedding and makes a sad toast. He says he’s okay because he’s got friends in low places who will drink with him. It’s a catchy song, but a sad picture. Friends in seedy places who will help you hide, drown, and chase your blues away don’t really fix much. Garth may reply, “At least they are available.”
Do you see the wild truth of the gospel? Hebrews shows us a friend who went as low as we are and lower. He’s just as willing and available to help with our real hurts, but He’s not only low. He is beyond the highest height. Jesus is God, purifying sinners, seated at the right hand of the Majesty on high. What do you need? He can provide, guide, heal, and forgive. Why go anywhere else?
Prayer Prompt: Jesus, I need you.
