Luke 19:3-4
3 [Zacchaeus] wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.
This reminds me of when I took my nephew to see his hero Lebron James. We got to the stadium hours early and waited for the bus just to see him walk in. Inside, we stood by the tunnel for an eternity waiting for him to pass by after warmups. As he passed, he didn't even look at us. My nephew was crushed.
In the same way, Zaccheaus was looking to engage with Jesus, even if it was just to see Him. The difference, and the most wonderful news, is that Jesus really wanted Zacchaeus. Jesus sees him and eats dinner with him. During dinner Jesus invites him into His family forever. You know they say “never meet your heroes because you will be disappointed”. You just need the right hero. Just like so many times in the scripture, Jesus is reaching out for you today.
Prayer prompt: Lord, thank You for wanting to be with me.
