James 1:2-4

2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Think about the last time you faced difficult circumstances. What was your attitude toward that situation? More often than not, our gut reaction is to see trials as inconvenient or destructive, getting in the way of the life we want to live. How could any good possibly come from tribulations?

God’s word commands us to change our perspective on facing hardship. Instead of complaining about how trials ruin our plans, let’s ask God to sanctify us through our trials just as gold is refined by fire (1 Peter 1:7), so that we can grow in our love for Him and others.

Prayer prompt: Lord we trust you, especially when experiencing adversity, for You can use the trials we face to bring us closer to You.
