Philippians 4:8
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Imagine you were a painter and you finally saw the painting. Every study you had seen on light, every attempt to capture movement, every struggle to convey emotion suddenly faded as you saw the greatest possible painting. It would then seem foolish to go in any other direction. You’ve seen beauty, every other possible road loses it’s appeal.
That’s what Paul is calling us to do. Don’t read these verses and lament all the things you suddenly can’t think about. These verses are calling us to look up at true beauty, to find it in all the places God has reflected it in this world, His word, and the people around you. Become a student of beauty.
Prayer prompt: Lord, help me to find joy in thinking hard about what you have called good.
