After a full day of family fun recently, my wife told my daughters, “Girls, when you get old enough to get married, look for a man who is just like your daddy.” You can imagine how those words made me feel! A couple weeks back in “Seth’s Corner,” I wrote about encouraging your kids. First Thessalonians 5:11 says, “encourage one another and build each other up.” But it’s equally important to encourage your spouse. And it’s even better when you encourage your spouse in front of your kids. By doing so, you accomplish several things at once: building up your spouse, modeling godly behavior for your children, and sending a signal to your kids that you love your spouse. Children thrive in a home where the mother and father love each other. It makes them feel secure. So don’t hold back those compliments or flowers or hugs … show your kids that you love and appreciate your spouse.
